I was today years old when I learned that Claude Code’s status line can be customised much like in your favourite shell.
I’ve gotten used to writing the /usage and `status` commands every time I’d like to check my usage and how much I’ve spent vibe coding.
But you can literally just tell Claude to update its status line with whatever information you’d like! I’ve told it to add how much money the current session is costing me and the current context usage — so I know when I should start thinking about compacting or just starting fresh.

A colleague of mine pointed me to https://github.com/kcchien/claude-code-statusline — a pretty nice-looking status line for Code. And I’m sure there’s a whole world out there of other creative setups. Looking forward to experimenting more with these.
